Jesus is not messing with our heads.

Matthew 24: 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days, The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed her light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the celestial powers will be shaken. 30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the land will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

I just hope it’s not on Twitter.  Truly, I do. I am not (currently) Twitterpated myself…

Every day, I see it somewhere.  Somewhere online, someone is saying, like the Apostle John, “Amen, Come, Lord Jesus!”

Hey, I’m there with that. I am. Really. But I say so in my heart, with trepidation and hope that I will be ready.  Ready to meet him? Oh, of course.  The Apostle Peter says that THAT should be our top priority!

But also, I have to be ready to live through the time of tribulation, for my Lord, my Savior, my dearest Friend and Master has SAID so.

Please note, again, that Jesus does not equivocate in the above passage.  “Immediately after the tribulation of those days,” he says.  “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear,” he goes on.  And finally, “”He will send his angels..and they will gather his elect…”

People.  Read it.  Jesus Christ, the Alpha and Omega, has told us the order of things, here.  He is not being secretive. He WANTS us to know what will happen.

So please, prepare.  Like the virgins in Matthew 25. The wise ones.  Get your lamps ready.  Have extra oil.  We do not know how much time we may have to wait.

And you know what?  The way our world is spiraling right now, I am not giving us all that many years.

Paul and John do agree!

Posted by: Sandi    in End of the Age

When I got to my computer this morning (even before coffee!) I found a question waiting for me in reference to my post regarding a pretribulational rapture.  I thought I would share my answer here on my site, taken from my note to my reader.

~*~

Good morning!

A couple of things about 1 Thessalonians. I see that book as evidence of the man as he wrote what God gave him to write.  Paul believed still, in that letter, that Christ’s return was imminent…as in within his — Paul’s — lifetime or shortly thereafter.  That understanding changed for him by the time he wrote his second letter to the churches of Thessalonika.

Now having said that, lol, let me address your question.

[1 Thessalonians 4] 15 For we say this to you by a revelation from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming will certainly have no advantage over those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will always be with the Lord.

Paul says that there will be Christians alive when Jesus returns. Many of those to whom he was writing had expressed concern, scholars infer, that those who had died already would not be resurrected to live in Heaven. That only those who were alive would see the Lord.  Paul is addressing this worry — for it can be a debilitating one!  He is telling the people that those who have died in the Lord will rise FIRST.  So not to worry.  And then those who are alive will join them in the air and be with the Lord forever.  A joyful anticipation!

He is addressing the issue of hope, in this section of his letter.  And there is hope indeed for all who are in the Lord, whether dead or living.

As pertains to any “rapture” event… this passage only describes the great harvest, spoken of in the book of Revelation, in chapter 14:

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “let them rest from their labors, for their works follow them!” 14 Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and One like the Son of Man was seated on the cloud, with a gold crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. 15 Another angel came out of the sanctuary, crying out in a loud voice to the One who was seated on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the time to reap has come, since the harvest of the earth is ripe.”  16 So the One seated on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

This is pretty much exactly what Paul was talking about, don’t you think?  :)  This event in the book of Revelation occurs, in my reading and understanding (see my “Tell Everyone” page at my website if you want the full, 50-part study on Revelation. It’s available for free download in a PDF) in the interlude between the trumpets of the angels during the tribulation and the beginning of God’s outpouring of wrath as depicted by the bowls.

Now, I read the Left Behind series by LaHaye and Jenkins.  I did.  Almost all of it, including the “kids’” series.  Many engaging characters in dramatic situations, some funny moments, and some interesting interpretations of the prophecies found in the book of Revelation and Daniel.

Thing is, the series began on what I believe to be a faulty premise.  Nowhere in Scripture does the Lord God Almighty promise that those who believe in him will be evacuated — “raptured” — before the tribulation gets underway.

Nowhere.

Indeed, when Jesus himself was asked about signs and times and seasons, he warned his friends that there was going to be trouble before he returned. He warned of natural catastrophes.  Of persecution.  Of someone Jesus called the Abomination that Causes Desolation. (Matthew 24:15) Then, he recommends that folks head to the hills, and expresses woe for those who are pregnant and nursing when all of this happens.  Nowhere does he mention that these women won’t have to worry, because their little ones will be caught up to Heaven.  Nowhere does he say that his people will be able to ignore it all because they won’t be around.

Instead, he says that there will be great tribulation. Trouble such as never been visited on the planet before.  And if the days were not cut short, Jesus says, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect — those who are in the body of Christ, those who are saved, those who have salvation already — the days will be cut short. (Matthew 24:22)

Doesn’t this speak directly to the pre-tribulational Rapture theory?  If you are a Christian, and you claim to believe the Bible as God’s word and you believe that Jesus’ own words are to be believed then you must heed them.

And he says for us to prepare against a time of great trouble.  That time is quickly coming upon us.

If you haven’t yet read my different study series on what God’s word says about this, please click on over to this page and download the studies available.  Share them.

Life is not a biblical fiction book series.
