The Instant-Access Age
As we have progressed in our instant-access age, I find that the attention spans of people I know has decreased while their abilities to manage a few streams of information has increased.
This is not necessarily a good thing, but it is interesting. I find that I rarely have only one browser tab open at a time. It is usually two or three. Often, I interrupt one task to check on another arena of online interest. I might stop typing mid-paragraph to check e-mail or follow a story thread at my Weyr. I’ll break off an e-mail to check my news feeds. And so on.
Sad, yes, but I do not think I’m the only one afflicted with instant-access-addiction!
Which makes the following cartoon more amusing, but also a little sad.
